Cough.. cough.. A man coughs and sips in a breath of air. But the coughing does not stop, and the wheezing of his breath sounds as if he is experiencing an asthma attack. It was the year 2346. The road is filled with electric cars and the sky is gray. Then, suddenly, the man’s coughing gets even worse, and it seems as if he is choking to death. After a minute, he falls to the ground gasping for help. Then, before anyone could help him, his life ends. Later people find him and think he died due to a respiratory disease, not knowing that the effects of electric cars killed him. People might think electric cars are beneficial for the environment and the society in general, but I think fossil fuel cars provide more benefits.
There are many differences and similarities when we compare fossil fuel cars and electric cars. Fossil fuel cars run on gasoline and emit CO2 out of the tailpipe. It emits 16,000 pounds of CO2 for making the car. It emits more CO2 but causes less air pollution than electric cars. If the US has 10% more gasoline cars, then 870 more people will die because of air pollution. Also, we don’t have to charge it as much as electric cars. Electric cars are also cars that emit CO2. Many people think that there are 0 emissions in electric cars, but that’s not true. An electric car emits 20,000 pounds of CO2 for making the car. It emits less CO2 than normal cars in its whole lifetime, but there isn’t a big difference. The difference is about 3~5 tons of CO2, which isn’t a lot. We also have to charge it everyday. Electric cars also cause more air pollution. The electricity electric cars run on is produced by coal, a fossil fuel. If electric cars increase by 10%, while in fossil fuel cars 870 die, 1,617 people will die. That's twice as many as normal cars. All in all, both cars are unhealthy for the Earth.
It’s true that many people think electric cars are better for the Earth than normal gas cars, but I can say that fossil fuel cars are better. I prefer fossil fuel cars because they cause less pollution. An increase of fossil fuel cars would cause 870 deaths whilst a same increase in electric cars would cause 1,617 deaths. This means that there will be twice as many deaths for electric cars, and common sense tells us that less deaths is better than having more deaths. People might think that we could use renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels. However, it is impossible. Today, we use only 14% of renewable sources for power. Scientists predict that even in 2040, we will use only 17% of renewable sources which is a mere increase of only 3%. Therefore, renewable energy is not a factor we can consider in the close future. Also, if there is a higher demand and rapid increase of electric car production, they would need to build new factories, which would cause more air pollution.It is not the vehicles in the cities that cause pollution, it is the factories. Air pollution is harmful for the environment, animals, and us. It could give us many diseases such as asthma, heart diseases, lung cancer, and stroke. Another reason is that we don’t have to charge fossil fuel cars like electric cars. I’m lazy, so it would be annoying to charge it. Lastly, there isn’t much advantage in using electric cars. The only advantage is that it emits less CO2. However, there isn’t a lot of difference and the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. For all these reasons, fossil fuel cars are a better car.
Gas cars and electric cars are very similar. They are both cars that are harmful and emit CO2. But overall, fossil fuel cars are better. Firstly, they create less pollution and are better for the environment. Secondly, they are easier to take care of. We don’t have to charge it at ALL. Finally, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. If there are too many disadvantages, I would want to change into a gas car. If you still believe that electric cars are emission free and better, you are wrong and think again! 😡
