People have been found abusing animals on farms to provide delicacies for consumption. Some foods are considered cruel because of the way they are prepared. An example of cruel food is foie gras. It is the liver of a duck or a goose. On a dirty, smelly farm filled with ducks and geese, a man grabs the bird by its throat without any care. He shoves a thick metal tube through the bird’s throat to pump the stomach of the duck or goose with an excess of food. The bird flaps its wings and screeches, trying to escape from the person’s arms. But the man grabs it harder so it can’t escape. Then, he grabs a knife and stabs the bird with it. The bird screeches one last time and closes its eyes. Many people want to stop the production of cruel foods. Some countries prohibit cruel foods by law.
Many animal rights groups try to stop the consumption of cruel foods. An example is PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). PETA stages elaborate protest events. The people in PETA hold up signs in the streets and protest in order to raise awareness of cruel foods. PETA also employs celebrity activists. Some famous examples are Ariana Grande, Bill Clinton, Jane Goodall, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift. Most of them become models for posters or signs. Employing celebrities draws the attention of the media. PETA influenced many people and they are slowly starting to stop the consumption of cruel foods. If PETA keeps on staging protests and influences more people, hopefully, people will ban cruel foods or kill animals more humanely.
Cruel foods such as foie gras or veal should be banned. According to Wikipedia, about 72 billion animals get killed for consumption every year. That is ten times the human population. People abuse animals in order to process and consume them as delicacies. Animals are living organisms just like people. All living organisms feel pain. In addition, people separate newborn baby animals from their moms and the baby animals get killed just for the satisfaction of eating savory foods. Some animals are kept in cages smaller than their bodies. They can’t move or even breathe. Some countries banned cruel foods due to the inhumane way they are prepared, but the whole world should ban some types of foods to stop killing animals inhumanely.
